About

Nicolette Bennett is a second-year undergraduate student studying Psychology and Writing at the University of Michigan. She has a strong interest and passion for highlighting the black community and social justice.

Outside of class, Nicolette is a member of the Black Undergraduate Psychological Association, the Black Student Union, the Red Cross Club, and a columnist for the Michigan Daily Michigan in Color section. Nicolette works as a Student Program Assistant for the Intergroup Relations Office and enjoys reading, volunteering with the American Red Cross, and spending time with her friends.

Experiment 1: Discovery of Topic & Ethnography

Experiment 1 aided Nicolette in deciding which topic to pursue. She began with affirmative action before choosing black UMich as a whole. It also guided her exploration of the ethnography genre.

Experiment 2: Exploring Historical Timelines

Experiment 2 was focused on the timeline genre and crafting it in a way that is engaging and interesting. It solidified her desire to highlight current events and lesser known individuals.

'Affirmative Action: An Educational Necessity'

The orgin piece and inspiration for Nicolette's project. Nicolette wrote this for her 2023 Summer Bridge course CSP: Reading & Writing Seminar. She wrote the essay weeks after the Supreme Court ruled that affirmative action is unconstitutional.
